Students from Ms. Natalia Navarro’s Chicano and Latin American History Class traveled to Lemon Grove on January 14th to see the Lemon Grove Incident Mural on Broadway Avenue and hear Helen Ofield’s superb talk on the 1931 famous civil rights case.
LGHS History Mural Returns to 3308 Main Street!

Ten panels were removed a year ago to facilitate construction of a sidewalk along the length of the historic 1912 Mission Revival bakery building. They returned once construction was completed. Section One, The Kumeyaay World, was originally installed in 2006! The entire project, designed by Kathleen Strzelecki and Janne LaValle won the Governor’s Historic Preservation Award.

Mark Lane, CEO, Minority Humanitarian Foundation, organized a superb dedication on March 19, 2022 of the new mural on the wall of 7963 Broadway. The artist, Mario Chacon, was present, along with a who’s who of the Mexican American community in Lemon Grove and environs.
